What is FemmeUp?
FemmeUp is a female health platform that provides trustworthy, medically verified information and support for a wide range of health concerns women face—from menstruation to menopause and beyond. And it’s more than just information: FemmeUp offers personalized care paths tailored to the user’s symptoms—making it far more in-depth than generalized health platforms like Thuisarts.
Where did the idea for FemmeUp come from?
The idea didn’t come out of nowhere. My co-founder Amy has a background in HealthTech and previously ran a startup focused specifically on menopause. After selling that business, she joined Achmea Impact Ventures, where she realized the problem of women’s health is both wider and more systemic.
Why female health?
The topic is becoming more visible. More articles, more social discussion, more awareness. Women are beginning to recognize patterns in their own health, and they’re seeking solutions. Employers, too, are more aware than ever that employee wellbeing and productivity go hand in hand. Many are now actively searching for tools to better support female employees.
How is this still a problem in 2025?
Despite all the advancements in digital health, reliable and female-specific health information is hard to find. Yes, there’s a lot of info online, but how do you know what is trustworthy? FemmeUp solves this by ensuring that all content is verified by medical professionals—no guesswork, no doomscrolling through Google.
Why is there a healthcare gap in the Netherlands?
The situation in the Netherlands is far from ideal. Most medical research has been conducted on men, and care systems reflect that bias. There’s also a deep stigma around subjects like menstruation, hormonal therapy, and menopause.
We are working to change that—not just by educating women, but by including men and employers in the conversation, and by breaking down stigmas at every level.
